What’s changing? Pilot completed, now full implementation
Wolt has successfully completed the pilot phase of the “Card on Delivery” feature, also known as “Wolt card payments”, and is preparing for full rollout on iOS devices (in addition to the ongoing rollout on Android). The next stage will begin on September 8th and will cover the following cities: Lublin, Rzeszów, Katowice, Częstochowa, Toruń, and Bydgoszcz. This will allow couriers to handle more orders with the card payment on delivery option.
How does “Card on Delivery” work in the Wolt Partner app?
All payments are processed entirely within the courier’s app. The amount is charged directly from the order, eliminating the risk of error when counting cash or giving change.
Key features:
- Payment is processed through Stripe in the Wolt Partner app.
- The courier sees the amount to be collected and follows the on-screen instructions.
- After a successful transaction, the standard delivery screen returns – the courier completes the order.

Who can receive card payment orders?
To receive orders with the “Card on Delivery” option, the courier must meet two basic conditions:
- Have “registered” status in the “Card on Delivery” feature.
- Be online on a device that supports contactless payments (NFC).
Registration for the feature
When the feature is enabled in a given city or when a new courier joins the platform, a pop-up will appear in the app asking for registration confirmation. This setting can later be changed in the app settings or by contacting the Support Team.
Technical requirements: NFC, updates, and device compatibility
The Wolt Partner app automatically checks the device capabilities, but a few things are worth ensuring:
- NFC enabled on the phone.
- Updated Wolt Partner app.
- Updated operating system (iOS/Android).
- Developer settings disabled (these may block payments).
If a courier changes devices, not all models may be compatible. The app will re-check compatibility each time it is closed and reopened.

How a card payment delivery works – step by step
Before accepting an order, the courier checks whether it includes card payment on delivery. At the time of delivery:
- The payment library is loading – the button “Preparing device for payment” (the first payment may take a few seconds).
- The button updates — the courier proceeds to payment.
- After clicking “Proceed to payment”, a Stripe screen opens with the amount and an instruction on where to hold the card (blue circle = approximate NFC reader location).
- The customer holds the card to the back of the phone:
a) The payment succeeds, or
b) For higher amounts, the customer enters their PIN on the next screen. - After completing the payment, the standard delivery screen returns — the courier finishes the order.
What to do if the payment fails?
Card not detected
If the card isn’t close enough to the NFC sensor or is moved too quickly, a general error message will appear. Usually, the following helps:
- Trying again,
- Swiping the chip more slowly,
- Holding the card closer to the payment symbol.
The error still persists
The courier should check if NFC is enabled on the phone.
Switching to cash payment
If the problem doesn’t go away and the courier is able to accept cash, they can agree with the customer to change the payment method. Important rules:
- Cash is available only for couriers authorized for cash payments.
- Once cash payment is initiated, there is no return to card payment.
- Cash is only possible when the card payment attempt failed.
If the payment cannot be completed at all — contact Support Team to determine next steps and enable the continuation of deliveries.

Table: Card payments vs cash on delivery
| Feature | Card payment (Card on Delivery) | Cash payment |
|---|---|---|
| Where it’s processed | In the Wolt Partner app (Stripe) | Physically, at delivery |
| Error risk | Minimal (order amount) | Higher (change, calculations) |
| Equipment requirements | NFC, compatible phone, updates | No special requirements |
| Availability | For registered couriers with NFC | Only for couriers with the cash option |
| Changing payment method | Possible only from card to cash (failure) | No return to card after switching |
Why is this important for couriers?
- More orders – some customers choose card payment on delivery.
- Less cash – safer work, no need to carry change.
- Faster completion – in-app payment, fewer formalities at the door.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can every Wolt courier accept card payments on delivery?
No. The feature is available for couriers who have “registered” status in “Card on Delivery” and are online on a device with NFC enabled.
Do I need a payment terminal?
No. Payment is made directly in the Wolt Partner app, which uses the phone’s NFC module.
What should I do if my phone doesn’t have NFC?
In this case, you will not be able to process card payments on delivery. You can still accept cash payment orders if you have this option enabled.
Can I change my mind and opt out of the “Card on Delivery” feature?
Yes. You can change this setting in the app settings or by contacting the Support Team.
What happens if the card payment fails?
If you have permission for cash payments, you can agree with the customer to switch to cash. Please note that once you switch to cash, you cannot return to card payment for this order.
When will the “Card on Delivery” feature be available in my city?
The next stage of rollout is planned for September 8 and will cover the cities of Lublin, Rzeszów, Katowice, Częstochowa, Toruń, and Bydgoszcz. In the following weeks, the feature may be launched in additional locations.
