October 1st start & high demand: The new Academic year 2026/27 begins on October 1st—bringing with it increased demand for deliveries and rides. It’s a great time to put earning through apps at the forefront between your university classes. Flexible schedule, fast payouts, and “peaks” during rain or events let you earn extra whenever you have breaks between lectures.

How many weekly hours make sense? Working during studies: scenarios and ranges

Earning via apps: approximate gross hourly rates (before expenses) in the largest cities:

CityDeliveries by bike/scooterRides by carRain/peak (deliveries)
Warsaw28–40 zł/h40–65 zł/h45–60 zł/h
Kraków25–36 zł/h34–55 zł/h40–55 zł/h
Wrocław26–38 zł/h35–56 zł/h42–58 zł/h
Trójmiasto26–37 zł/h34–54 zł/h40–55 zł/h
  • Bike: 1–3 zł (service, lights, clothing).
  • Scooter: 7–12 zł (fuel/charging + service).
  • Car: 14–24 zł (fuel, service, depreciation, carwash).

Sample monthly earnings working in Warsaw (after deducting the above expenses, excluding taxes):

  • 10 h/week: bike deliveries 900–1,300 zł; car rides 1,100–1,700 zł.
  • 15 h/week: bike deliveries 1,350–1,950 zł; car rides 1,650–2,550 zł.
  • 20 h/week: bike deliveries 1,800–2,600 zł; car rides 2,200–3,400 zł.

In Kraków, Wrocław, and Trójmiasto, expect usually 5–15% less. In rain and during “peaks,” you can exceed the upper range.

Top time slots: schedule around classes

  • After classes (4:30–9:30 PM): prime hours for deliveries; lots of dinners and people returning home.
  • Weekends: Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, Sunday from 5:00 PM – high demand, less traffic.
  • Rain and cold: fewer couriers in the city, rates and multipliers go up. Take a rain cover and gloves with you.
  • Events and matches: check the event calendar; around arenas/stadiums = shorter waiting times.
  • Morning (7:00–9:00 AM): breakfasts and commutes to university – a good slot for bike/scooter.

For foreigners: formalities in a nutshell

  • Language: basic Polish helps a lot (addresses, stairwells, intercoms). App interfaces are sometimes in English.
  • Contract/NIP: many apps operate via B2B or fleet partners; set up a sole proprietorship (NIP) or work with a partner who takes care of taxes and contributions.
  • Taxes: popular forms are lump sum tax (e.g. 8.5% for services) or tax scale/PIT-36; keep invoices/receipts for fuel and servicing.
  • Legality: check your work/residence permit (EU/non-EU) and local requirements (e.g. license for transporting people).
  • Micro-etiquette in PL: punctuality, “good morning/thank you”, confirmation of address, ring the doorbell gently after 10:00 PM.

Safety and health: must-haves

  • Sleep and breaks: 50–90 minutes of work + 10-minute break. Shifts max 6–7 h.
  • Visibility: 360° reflectors, lights, helmet; in the car: vest and warning triangle.
  • Ergonomics: chest strap on backpack, gloves, membrane shoes; for cars, stretch every 2 hours.
  • Safe pickup spots: avoid dark gateways; if you feel uncomfortable, cancel the order. Health > job.

Lifehacks from Polish Cities

  • Warsaw: switch districts – business (Mordor) on weekdays, residential in the evenings.
  • Krakow: Old Town and Kazimierz on weekends; be careful of restricted traffic zones.
  • Wrocław: bridges = bottlenecks; stick to one side of the Oder for short time windows.
  • Tricity: rain + wind = few couriers; Sopot in summer and on weekends means quick, short trips.

Starter Checklist

  • Account in the apps + document verification.
  • Equipment: thermal backpack, powerbank, phone holder, rain cover.
  • Transport: inspection/service, lighting, helmet.
  • Finances: separate account, fuel/service reserve, chosen tax settlement method.
  • Organization: set 2–3 regular slots per week + 1 “rain slot”.

Life Stories: Two Paths to Extra Income

Ania, psychology student from Krakow – bike and “rain peaks”

Ania started in October because she wanted to earn extra for her rent without giving up on academic circles. She rides a bike: 3 afternoons a week (approx. 17:00–21:00) + Saturday evenings. This gives her 12–15 working hours. On normal days, she averages 27–33 PLN/hour gross, and during rain even 40–50 PLN/hour thanks to multipliers. Her costs are about 2 PLN/hour (maintenance, lighting, gloves). Monthly, she usually nets 1,300–1,800 PLN after costs, before tax. Her lifehacks:

  • Zones: weekly windows – UJ Campus on weekdays, Kazimierz and Old Town on weekends.
  • Weather: has a backpack cover and rain pants – “rain means a bonus”.
  • Organization: uses our Google Sheets template; sets aside 30% for tuition and bike maintenance.
  • Quality: calls the customer if the address is unclear; ratings of 4.95+ result in more frequent orders.

Kamil, computer science student from Wrocław – scooter and short, intense shifts

Kamil combines labs with deliveries on a scooter. He works 2–3 times a week for 4–5 hours (Tue–Thu 18:00–22:30, Sun 17:00–22:00) – totaling about 15 hours. The rates in his slots are usually 29–36 PLN/hour gross, in “peaks” 40–55 PLN/hour. His scooter costs around 9–11 PLN/hour (fuel, maintenance, tires). Per month, after costs and before tax, he makes 1,500–2,200 PLN. What works for Kamil:

  • Route: sticks to one side of the Oder to avoid wasting time on bridges.
  • Safety: reflective vest and helmet with pinlock – zero fogging in the rain.
  • Plan: fixed “slots” in the calendar and a break every 90 minutes.
  • Micro-etiquette: “hello/thank you” and a quick SMS if the intercom doesn’t work – fewer cancellations.

Common takeaway? Regular slots after classes + using rain and local events give a predictable, decent income without burning out. Both emphasize the importance of sleep hygiene, reflectives, and realistic cost calculations – thanks to this, extra work is both effective and safe.

Summary: studies + courier = apps without stress

Combining classes with earning money on apps like Glovo, Uber Eats, Wolt, Bolt Food, Stuart or Jush! works when you have a plan: 10–20 hours a week, targeted slots after classes, rainy “peaks” and a focus on safety. Use the rate table, test out districts and the means of transport. Download the checklist and calculator, set up your schedule for October, and start earning smarter – not harder.
